What Would YOUR Dream Home Look Like?

As premium new home builders, we help our clients to achieve their dream home, whether it’s a ready built or custom-built home. Find out what you need to consider when beginning the journey.

For some people, it’s an open-plan kitchen with hardwood floors and a view of the harbour.

Others imagine a luxurious master bedroom with an enormous walk-in wardrobe, and maybe an ensuite bathroom in duckegg blue.

Some can see themselves in a simple, bach-like oasis with wide, Cape Cod windows.

No matter who we are or what stage of life we’re at, we all have a vision of our perfect home.

So, when the time comes to build it, it makes sense to do it right.

But where do you even start?

How To Begin Building Your Dream Home

First of all, it’s important to understand the difference between a ready-built home and a custom-built home. Each type of home has advantages and disadvantages. Choosing which best suits you depends on your needs, your budget and the details you want to be in control of.

At Landmark Homes, as premium new home builders, we help our clients do both. Here are the things you need to consider when beginning the journey.

The biggest factor, of course, is time. And building your dream home takes time – especially if you want it done right. If you’re moving to a new city to start a new job, to send your children to school, or just to be nearer to family, then you may not have the luxury of choosing when you can move in. That’s where a ready-built home is often more suitable.

There’s also the amount of detail you want to be in control of.

Ready-Built vs Custom-Built Homes

As the name suggests, a ready-built home is pre-designed and ready to move into. This is perfect for those who have the budget for a brand-new home but need it be ready in a specific time, or be in a specific location.

A custom-build, on the other hand, is for those with the freedom to create their own home from scratch. They may already have a very specific idea of their perfect home in mind, and finally be in a place to put it into action.

A custom-built home gives you the ability to design, plan and choose every aspect of construction from start to finish. You’re the boss here. You decide everything – from how many bathrooms you want to the style of the doorknobs. If you’re at the stage in life where you have the time, the budget and the vision, then a custom home may be for you.

The Wilson’s Custom-Built Home

This was certainly the case for Tony and Debbie Wilson when building their dream home. Having already secured their location- a stunning hillside overlooking the harbour – they then contacted Landmark Homes to turn their vision into a reality.

As creative people, the Wilson had a very specific vision of their perfect abode. They took their design and lifestyle requirements to Landmark and began creating their vision, step by step.

Working together with Landmark Home designer Wendy King, the Wilsons were able to draw up everything to their own specification, from where to put the bathrooms to how the lights would hang in front of the mirror.

The result? The Wilsons are now the proud owners of a Bali-inspired retreat that combines contemporary architecture with traditional warmth. They have the open-plan kitchen they wanted, along with the modern look of all-black, box-style architecture. They even got creative with the lighting, adding tulip and sphere-shaped hand-blown glass shades.

Kerry’s Remove And Rebuild Home

It was a similar situation for Kerry of Gulf Harbour. She already had a home in the perfect location: a cliff-top in Whangaparaoa. However, the house itself was far from her “dream home”.

After visiting a Landmark show home, Kerry got thinking. She sketched a few ideas on a piece of paper and took them to Landmark Homes designers. And so began the Landmark “Remove and Rebuild” process.

Kerry now has the home she always wanted: a contemporary beach bach with stunning views of the peninsula.

By working closely with Landmark Homes’ designers, Kerry’s sketch became her “holiday at home”. The house features an open-plan central area and living quarters at either end, so that her master suite allows that little bit of extra privacy (perfect for when the grandkids visit!).  She chose painted brick to create a shabby chic feel, and was even able to add her recycled railway sleepers to use as flooring.

Creating your dream home isn’t just about finding a place to live. It’s a journey into who you are and what you’ve always wanted. It should capture your personality, your relationship to the world and how you want to live your life. Size, style, location, décor – all of these things are entirely your vision.

We’re all unique – and so are our dreams. The beauty of designing your own home is the realisation of that dream.

If you’re ready to build, Landmark Homes are ready to help. Call the team today to make a start on your dream.
