Hands-on experience helps Northland’s clients

From interior to exterior, Landmark Homes Northland’s Clint Dyke has done it all.

A qualified cabinet maker, Clint worked in the joinery industry for nearly 20 years, building a number of commercial stores around the country (including several Michael Hill Jewelers) and high-spec kitchens.

But at age 30, he turned his attention to the residential building industry, completing an adult apprenticeship in Northland and then putting a team of builders together to create residential properties.

“I managed to get experience in all facets of construction management and supervision within the building trade,” says Clint.

“I think it is extremely important to have this background, as I can say to my clients I have literally been there, done that. It gives me the advantage of explaining things thoroughly when they need a more detailed explanation.”

In 2014, Clint and his team were approached by Landmark Homes to see if they were interested in joining the Landmark family – at which Clint leapt at the opportunity.

“I had plans to expand and this opportunity came at the right time for us. We were totally blown away with the processes, support and professionalism of Landmark Homes New Zealand. It was an easy choice.”

Five years later, Clint, his wife Ange and their Landmark Homes Northland team have helped numerous clients successfully bring their Landmarks to life. He says the best part of his job is meeting people and being involved with building some really stunning homes that have a point of difference.

“I like a challenge, working with my team to come up with a design that we know the client will like and that will suit their requirements and ideas.

“We don’t have a conveyor belt for our builds. For us, it is about taking the time and dedicating ourselves to each of our builds, with detailed production and attention, to provide our clients with a home they are proud to say is a Landmark.”

While each build is unique, Clint says there is a current trend towards creating large, lively entertainment areas, “with fire places inside and out, and covered outside areas, which are ideal for Northland summer evenings”.

When it comes to first-time home builders, Clint’s best piece of advice is to investigate your options and look at these kinds of trends, while also thinking about what you’d like to see in your home.

“This is important and assists with speeding up the design phase, as this part of the process can take some time – ensuring we get it right and create a home that suits you and your lifestyle.”
