What better way to view the beautiful Kaipara Harbour than while reclining in the tub?
That’s exactly what Wendy King’s clients wanted when they asked her to design the bathroom in their North Shore home. Not only did they get a sublime bathing experience, but Wendy was awarded runner-up in the 2019 TIDA New Zealand Designer Bathrooms awards.
As Senior Designer at Landmark Homes North Shore and Rodney, Wendy has been creating beautiful homes for more than 26 years. Her award-winning bathroom was for a home in a rural location on the Kaipara Harbour.
Wendy said her clients had a very particular idea of how they wanted their bathroom to look: no shiny surfaces, and a fabulous view. She helped the clients create the look they wanted using custom products and finishes.
The result was “luxury without bling”. Everything in the bathroom has a matte finish, from the brushed nickel tapware and chunky stone bath and bowl, right down to matte tiles and subdued lighting.
The best feature, however, is the huge ‘picture window’ in front of the tub. The full-height glass panel slides over the exterior cladding to give a seamless feel to the outdoors. The window can be opened up for a stunning viewing experience while reclining in the tub.
LED strip lighting and hand-blown glass lighting add a unique softness to the room.
Wendy says this modern bathroom design was largely inspired by the natural beauty of the surrounding environment. The clients also wanted a change from their previous homes, which had all been dark and moody. They were looking to create a more subtle look with warmer natural tones reflecting the natural setting and rocks outside.
“The bath deserved a view and a connection to the outside,” she said. “The clients had seen our bathroom at our previous show home and were keen to replicate some of the finishes including similar custom vanities.”
Landmark Homes North Shore and Rodney franchise owners, Paul and Debbie Brett (pictured below) were present to accept the award on Wendy’s behalf.
