If you’ve ever thought of building a forever home in Central Otago – the show home at Cromwell will help convince you to do it!
An idyllic location by any stretch, Central Otago is renowned for its adrenaline and endorphin-boosting activities, spectacular snow-capped mountains, and crystal-clear lakes and rivers.
It’s not hard to see why so many want to call it home – and the new showhome in Cromwell, positioned a five-minute stroll from Pisa Moorings, just off the pristine waters of Lake Dunstan, will only reinforce that decision.
Landmark Homes’ New Home Consultant Trish Dryden shared that the Richmond Ready to Build plan was chosen for the show home because of its shape and aesthetic. The Central Otago team particularly love the angled profile of the gabled roof. “We wanted a design that fitted with the lakeside aesthetic – and the Richmond has that classic Hampton’s coastal feel.”
The challenge, however, was that the section was small. So, although the shape of the Richmond plan suited the section, the building platform was smaller again. Explains Trish, “This was a tricky site – it was very long and narrow, with a 20-metre ‘no build zone’ on the back boundary.”
Fortunately, this is just the type of puzzle that the Landmark Homes team relish solving. A quick resize of the original design, and they had a home that fits perfectly.
“We had to trim it to fit the site,” explains Trish. “We shortened the standard ready to build plan and slightly reduced the living areas. Essentially, everything was shrunk to fit onto the build platform.”
However, at 237m2, it is still spacious, and the house has all the hallmarks of a fantastic and functional family home.
Designed to impress
Offering four double bedrooms with built-in wardrobes, the master suite is kept separate from the guest or children’s bedrooms on the other side of the house – offering privacy, peace and quiet. (“Perfect for a family with teenage kids!” adds Trish.)
A separate study and laundry room add extra functionality and makes sure this family home is fit for purpose. Airy living areas occupy the centre of the home, including an open-plan living/dining/kitchen, and a separate lounge complete with wood-burner for those winter Central Otago evenings.
Trish’s favourite feature? “The amazing polished wood barn doors to the formal lounge.”
That and the beautiful sloped ceilings in the central living area with extra-height windows – so you can settle in to watch storms rolling in over the mountains, or soak up the sunshine on a summer’s day.
The home’s interior is contemporary and modern – and feels like it came straight from Instagram! “The colour palette was designed around the kitchen,” says Trish. “And that expanded into the rest of the house.”
The kitchen has all white cabinetry, black window frames, light marble-look Silestone Eternal Et Statuario countertops, a black breakfast bar, and stainless-steel fixtures and hardware. Black pendant lighting adds drama and depth – with golden sunshine yellow as a subtle pop of colour, and oak to add some warmth.
The rest of the house keeps that same colour scheme throughout.
The central living area also features oak Haro sustainable wood flooring, and a walk-in pantry off the kitchen keeps the main living area crisp, clean and clear – rather than cluttered. Plants and touches of nature throughout the interior are a nod to the scenic surroundings and makes for easy and relaxed living.
Take in the views and enjoy the easy living…
The exterior of the home is grey, with black window frames and white ledges – to match the kitchen.
Outside is a stunning, large, covered portico off the living area with three skylights on either side of the gabled roof for extra light to pour in. Designed to offer a space to entertain on hot summer Central Otago afternoons, and provide shelter during drizzly days – it’s a fabulous all-weather set-up. Not to mention a perfect spot to soak up the spectacular views of the hills and rugged mountains that surround Cromwell.
This stunning home offers luxury, comfort and space for family living – or just the two of you!
